Up In The Air

Monday, December 28, 2009

I'm currently at 30,000 ft, using in-flight wifi for the very first time. Sweet! I am such a geek at heart. It's times like these I love being in telecommunications and love being an engineer. It's companies like mine who develop the technology that makes amazing advances like these happen.
Now if only blogger could set up a better interface with the iPhone, I'd be set. Yes, thank you, please.
Back to my sky-high surfing. And home soon to see my pugs, yay!

Watercolor Beauty

Sunday, December 27, 2009

I finally had a chance to sit down and go through my emails after a couple of days of spending time with family.  I'm also totally procrastinating the packing I need to do before I fly home at the crack of dawn tomorrow morning.
While doing so, I ran across this beautiful dress.  It's one of those pieces that makes me happy just by looking at it.  If you know me, you know of my weakness for pretty dresses.  This one meets all the criteria: it's flowy, flowery, taupe-y/mauve-y (my favorite!) and oh so sweet.  Rather seasonless, too!  And, uhm, it is seventy-five percent off.   I would have clicked on this faster than you could say dress, but my size is already sold out.

If you happen to be a size M, get it here!
In other news, I finally got the chance to try on all the Rodarte items I scored at beloved Tarjay the other day.  I was so stoked that my store's selection was so great, I grabbed what looked cute and ran home with it.  Unfortunately, I was met with disappointment once I tried things on.  None of the pieces really looked that great on me, so they will be going back.

The Sales Have Started!

Thursday, December 24, 2009

Notably, Neiman Marcus has started their after-Christmas sale, by reducing all their sale merchandise an extra 25 percent.  Lots of cute items, including this Botkier Trigger Moto Clutch, this lovely Marc Jacobs in beige, and these studded pumps I covet and covet but can't pull the trigger on, even at almost half off:

I however, could not resist a practical purchase.  I know not all of you are fond of Uggs these days, but in the inclement weather I live in, and with three dogs, they are almost a necessity.  I had my eye on these grey ones all season and finally snagged them at 40% off.
Will update this post as more sales start rolling in.
Update:
Saks sale has started and it's as good as every other Christmas I remember.  Up to 70% off many styles.  Hurry, things are going fast!

Happy Shopping!

Happy Christmas Eve

It is one of my new year's resolutions to get this blog going for once and for all.  I had quite the busy year last year, but this year I promise to do better.
For now, I hope everyone is having a lovely Christmas Eve morning, and here are some deals of the day:

Shopbop
sale section just got extended.

I pick this lovely Foley & Corinna tote.  The color is what does it.  Nice with grey in the winter, but can be easily transitioned into spring, summer, and fall.

how about this hand-painted Gryson beauty 50% off?

Gap: Take an extra 20% off their sale items thru Sunday Dec 27 using code GAPEXTRA20
I pick this cute little cardi in an unexpected color:

and this criss-cross ruffle tank.  How cute is it?

Express:  $30 off $75 or $15 off $30 with code 4583.  You can also print the coupon to use in-store, but if you choose to shop online and spend $75 or more, you get free shipping, yay!

My pick?  The ruffle cardi I just bought yesterday ;)

A couple other things worth mentioning:

* If you are a Bloomies card-holder, today is the last day to get the extra 15% off.
* Gilt Fuse has a lovely sale on one of my favorite brands, Leifsdottir - but hurry, it's slim-pickings over there.
* If you are still looking for a nice, inexpensive gift, consider giving a magazine subscription to a hearst mag.  $5 for a whole year on titles like House Beautiful, Oprah, Food Network Mag, Cosmo, etc.  Go here
I'm off to hang with the fam.

Shopping on December 23

Wednesday, December 23, 2009

I must really love my mother. No, really, I do. She is the only person who could drag me to the mall on Dec 23 year after year to help her Christmas shop. See, unlike myself, she does not like to shop. She thinks it's a much better idea to stay away from the mall until I come in town, and then proceeds to wait till Dec 23 to finish her shopping in one day. I, on the other hand, wrap up most of my shopping by Nov 30.
Did I mention I do not like malls? I have not gone to a traditional mall in a while, and I definitely have not spent this.much.time in one since, uhm, last Dec 23? I have a bit of "crowd phobia", so I kind of, sort of, work it out so as to avoid them (thank you, internetz).
Pity party aside, I actually had a pretty decent time. Since all my gifts were already purchased, today was about me (and the gifts I helped my mom buy which I won't go into here).  This is what I came away with:
1. Express.  (tangent: Seriously?  WTF happened to this store?  I worked there some years ago and their items were tasteful and cute.  I went because they so graciously sent a coupon my way.  Little did I know, I would actually have a hard time finding $75 worth of things I wanted.  And here I would've put money on that being preee-tty unlikely.   I impress myself sometimes.  Anyway.  Shame on you Express, shame on you.)
After much scouring amidst what seemed like one club outfit after another, I ended up having this little chiffon ruffle cardi taken off the mannequin - a pretty sweet deal at $34.75:

Thought this would be a nice update to some of my basic work ensembles.
I also bought this hoodie for my brother (who will most likely not ever read this blog - but dear, if you do: Merry Christmas, I love you!), a clever take on the classic argyle sweater, and on sale for $41.75 :

Let's do the math, shall we?
$34.75 + $41.70 = $76.45
I had a $30 off $75 coupon.  Perfect! (because readers, we all know the closest we get our total to $75, the highest the discount we are actually receiving). I knew acing math would come in handy sometimes.
2. On we went to Banana Republic.  That's another place I don't frequent often (let's face it, I didn't do much shopping this year since "the big house purchase").  They had two deals worth mentioning: an extra 30% off all sale merchandise, and $25 cash back for every $100 purchase. I have never seen them do this.
I scored the following:

Nice ruffle top in my most favorite color inthewholewideworld - taupe,
and a very nice matching multi-strand necklace that is no longer online.
Because I do need another ruffle top.  No, really, I do.  I have not done much shopping in the last year, so I've totally missed out on this trend.  Which is a shame, because I am the type of person who's loved ruffles ever since she could say the word ruffle.

Of course 'tis the season for giving, so despite the fact we've already exchanged presents, I got a little something for beloved SO.  Because he's special.  And I love deals and this was a great one.  I got him this car coat he spied on GQ a few months ago.

3. At Bath & Body Works, just got my mom & I these super sweet matching Lambie Ballerina Slippers:

I put them on tonight and the cute factor is major.  They've got nothing on my slippers back home, but they will be wonderful for traveling.
I was looking forward to Ann Taylor (especially after I received word the entire store was again 40% off today), but was disappointed to find out our local Ann Taylor is no more.

All in all, not too shabby, all!  We went to Target afterward, and I will post tomorrow about my great Rodarte scores.  One wonderful thing about not being in Chicago right now - the entire Rodarte collection was pretty much left untouched here.  Sigh...
Good night!

Molly playing fetch

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Molly is one of my three lovely pugs - the smallest and also the feistiest; she's the only other female of the house, and the only one who can actually fetch ;)
