I must really love my mother. No, really, I do. She is the only person who could drag me to the mall on Dec 23 year after year to help her Christmas shop. See, unlike myself, she does not like to shop. She thinks it's a much better idea to stay away from the mall until I come in town, and then proceeds to wait till Dec 23 to finish her shopping in one day. I, on the other hand, wrap up most of my shopping by Nov 30.
Did I mention I do not like malls? I have not gone to a traditional mall in a while, and I definitely have not spent this.much.time in one since, uhm, last Dec 23? I have a bit of "crowd phobia", so I kind of, sort of, work it out so as to avoid them (thank you, internetz).
Pity party aside, I actually had a pretty decent time. Since all my gifts were already purchased, today was about me (and the gifts I helped my mom buy which I won't go into here). This is what I came away with:
1. Express. (tangent: Seriously? WTF happened to this store? I worked there some years ago and their items were tasteful and cute. I went because they so graciously sent a coupon my way. Little did I know, I would actually have a hard time finding $75 worth of things I wanted. And here I would've put money on that being preee-tty unlikely. I impress myself sometimes. Anyway. Shame on you Express, shame on you.)
After much scouring amidst what seemed like one club outfit after another, I ended up having this little chiffon ruffle cardi taken off the mannequin - a pretty sweet deal at $34.75:
Thought this would be a nice update to some of my basic work ensembles.
I also bought this hoodie for my brother (who will most likely not ever read this blog - but dear, if you do: Merry Christmas, I love you!), a clever take on the classic argyle sweater, and on sale for $41.75 :
Let's do the math, shall we?
$34.75 + $41.70 = $76.45
I had a $30 off $75 coupon. Perfect! (because readers, we all know the closest we get our total to $75, the highest the discount we are actually receiving). I knew acing math would come in handy sometimes.
2. On we went to Banana Republic. That's another place I don't frequent often (let's face it, I didn't do much shopping this year since "the big house purchase"). They had two deals worth mentioning: an extra 30% off all sale merchandise, and $25 cash back for every $100 purchase. I have never seen them do this.
I scored the following:
Nice ruffle top in my most favorite color inthewholewideworld - taupe,
and a very nice matching multi-strand necklace that is no longer online.
Because I do need another ruffle top. No, really, I do. I have not done much shopping in the last year, so I've totally missed out on this trend. Which is a shame, because I am the type of person who's loved ruffles ever since she could say the word ruffle.
Of course 'tis the season for giving, so despite the fact we've already exchanged presents, I got a little something for beloved SO. Because he's special. And I love deals and this was a great one. I got him this car coat he spied on GQ a few months ago.
I put them on tonight and the cute factor is major. They've got nothing on my slippers back home, but they will be wonderful for traveling.
I was looking forward to Ann Taylor (especially after I received word the entire store was again 40% off today), but was disappointed to find out our local Ann Taylor is no more.
All in all, not too shabby, all! We went to Target afterward, and I will post tomorrow about my great Rodarte scores. One wonderful thing about not being in Chicago right now - the entire Rodarte collection was pretty much left untouched here. Sigh...
Good night!
